Short answer: Faces Aesthetics Alliston is not a dermatology clinic. Dr. Fatima Mahdi is a medical doctor and emergency physician who offers Botox and dermal filler only. If you have a medical skin concern such as a rash, a changing mole, acne, or a possible skin cancer, you need a referral to a dermatologist from your family doctor. If your concern is cosmetic, lines, volume loss or lip shape, a physician-led aesthetics clinic may be exactly what you are looking for.
A surprising number of people find this website while searching for a dermatologist in Alliston. That makes sense: there is no dermatology office in town, and "doctor who treats faces" is a reasonable thing to type. Rather than let you book the wrong appointment, here is a clear guide.
What a Dermatologist Does
A dermatologist is a physician who completed a multi-year specialty residency in diseases of the skin, hair and nails. Dermatologists diagnose and treat medical conditions: eczema, psoriasis, acne, rosacea, suspicious moles, skin cancers, hair loss, chronic rashes, and much more. Many also offer cosmetic procedures, but the specialty is medical first.
What Faces Aesthetics Alliston Does
We are a medical aesthetics clinic focused on two treatments: Botox (and equivalent neuromodulators) and hyaluronic-acid dermal filler. Every treatment is administered personally by Dr. Fatima Mahdi, MD. Dr. Mahdi earned her MD at the University of Calgary, completed a Family Medicine residency at McMaster University, and works as an emergency physician. She is registered with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO #115421).
She is not a dermatologist, and we do not diagnose or treat skin disease.

How to See a Dermatologist in Ontario
Dermatology covered by OHIP requires a referral from a family doctor or nurse practitioner. There is no walk-in dermatology. The process is:
- Book with your family doctor or nurse practitioner and describe the concern.
- They refer you to a dermatologist. In Simcoe County and the northern GTA, referrals commonly go to dermatologists in Barrie, Newmarket, Orillia or Toronto. Wait times vary a lot by urgency and location.
- For a concerning mole or lesion, say so clearly. Urgent referrals move faster.
If you do not have a family doctor, Ontario's Health Care Connect program (through Health811) can register you to be matched with one accepting patients in your area. In the meantime, a walk-in clinic can assess an acute skin problem and, if needed, make the referral.
Some dermatologists and cosmetic-dermatology clinics also see patients privately for non-OHIP cosmetic services without a referral. That is a different, paid pathway.
When a Physician-Led Aesthetics Clinic Is the Right Call
If your concern is how your face looks rather than a disease, dermatology is often not where you want to end up anyway. These are the concerns we treat every day:
- Dynamic lines: forehead lines, frown lines between the brows, crow's feet. Treated with Botox.
- Jaw tension, teeth grinding, or a wide jaw: treated with masseter Botox.
- Volume loss: flattened cheeks, hollows under the eyes, a weak chin or jawline, deepening nasolabial folds. Treated with hyaluronic-acid filler.
- Lip shape and volume: lip filler or a lip flip.
- Excessive underarm sweating (hyperhidrosis): a therapeutic use of Botox.
The advantage of a physician for these is not the diagnosis. It is the anatomy training, the independent judgment about whether you are a candidate, and the ability to manage the rare complication. I explain that in nurse injector vs. physician.
One Important Rule at Our Clinic
If Dr. Mahdi notices something during your consultation that looks like it needs a medical assessment, a lesion, a rash, a skin change she does not like, she will tell you and point you toward your family doctor. She has declined to inject patients for exactly this reason. Injectables are medicine, and the first rule of medicine is not to treat the wrong thing.
